The three days

Two of them are lunches. The third is the wedding.

Under the pergola, from one o'clock, for as long as it takes.

In the shade of the olive terrace, with the good rosé.

At the top of the cypress avenue, at six, when the heat finally breaks.

Back at the house. Nine courses, four toasts, one very loud band.

Rohan was ordering. Leila, one table over, corrected him. He bought the bottle anyway and brought two glasses.

Eight years in a flat with no outdoor space and a great deal of talk about one day having a garden.

Rohan's aunt has cooked in this kitchen every August since 1998. She has agreed to do the Friday lunch and nothing else.
